Afrasiab Settlement (VIII century BC — 1220) Lifeless hills to the North of the modern city – the place where Samarkand appeared in the VIII century BC. The city existed on this territory until 1220, when it was conquered and destroyed by Genghis Khan. Now it is a national archaeological reserve, where the work of the international archaeological expedition. On the territory of the settlement there is a Museum of ancient history of Samarkand, in the halls of which exhibits of various periods of the city's life before the Mongol invasion – ossuary, metal and glass items, coins, ceramics and unique paintings of the VII century. • Khoja Daniyar Mausoleum On the Northern outskirts of the settlement Afrasiab there is one of the most revered believers Mazar – "place of worship". Legends associate Khodja Daniyar with the names of the Jewish prophet Daniel and Christian Daniel.
